Smart pop-up launch scenario examples

With SendPulse’s smart pop-up builder, you can create personalized messages for your site, driving more conversions. Create your pop-ups based on users’ browser language, traffic source, or device. Design holiday and promotion pop-ups, and retain users who visit your site for the first time or are about to leave.

We have collected several smart pop-up launch scenarios, so let’s talk about them in detail.

Language-specific pop-ups

Start creating a pop-up. In the Display conditions tab, select the Browser language > equals condition, and specify your browser language. You can enable multiple languages for one pop-up if necessary.

Mobile and desktop live chat pop-ups

Create a desktop live chat pop-up that will be displayed on your site. Customize the pop-up, enter your text, and connect a bot if necessary. Click Next.

In the Display conditions tab, select the Browser > All desktop condition.

Create a mobile pop-up. Go to your project, and click Add pop-up or widget.

You can give your scenario a unique name to be able to find it easily or choose its default name.

In the text input field, type in your concise text that will be displayed on mobile devices, and click Next.

In the targeting settings, select the Browser > All Mobile condition. This message will be displayed only to users who access your site from a mobile device.

You can choose not to change your desktop pop-up’s default settings and set the condition only for your mobile pop-up if you want to convert more mobile users.

Date-specific pop-ups

You can set up pop-ups that will be displayed on a specific date. For example, you can notify clients about your holiday specials or time-limited seasonal discounts. To do this, set up the dates when you want to run your scenario.

In the Display conditions tab, select the Date period condition, and choose your pop-up display period.

You can add multiple conditions, for example, if you offer a discount for different product categories. You can make your pop-ups time-limited and create several text versions for different site pages. Add the URL of the visited page > equals condition, and copy the link to your site page where you want to display your pop-up. The widget will be displayed to users who load your page with the given URL.

First visit pop-ups

You can make a special offer to those who visit your site for the first time to improve users’ experience. It can be a first-order discount, free shipping offer, or gift — anything that encourages a person to provide their contact info and make a purchase.

In the Display condition tab, select the Sessions count > less than condition and enter 2. The pop-up will be displayed only to those who visit your site for the first time.

We recommend not displaying your pop-up right away and allowing a person to explore your site page content first. For example, you can display your pop-up 10-15 seconds after a visitor opens your page.

To set the pop-up launch timer, select the Time on site > more than > required time.

Exit pop-ups

To prevent users from abandoning your site or switching to another tab, create a pop-up with a useful tip or suggestion.

Your pop-up should contain a clear call to action, and the user should be able to close it and leave your site anytime.

In the Display conditions tab, select the Move cursor out of page condition to display your pop-up to those who start moving the cursor to close the tab.

UTM-targeted pop-ups

UTM tags help personalize the experience for users who came to your site from a specific source or campaign or using a specific keyword.

With SendPulse, you can create pop-up display scenarios based on the following tags:

utm_medium Monitors where the user clicked through
utm_content Tracks the part of the page the user came from
utm_term Tracks the keyword or phrase that led the user to your site
utm_campaign Tracks the advertising campaign name
utm_source Tracks the traffic source

For example, you can offer users to go to your pricing page or calculate their shipping costs if they came from price-related ad campaigns.

To do this, go to the Display conditions tab, select the UTM Campaign > equals condition, and enter your UTM tag name.

You can also add a UTM tag to your promotional email buttons to be able to show your offer only to those who did not follow your email links. This way, only those who have not used your discount yet will receive the offer.

To do this, go to the Display conditions tab, select the UTM Source > not equals condition, and then enter your UTM tag name.
